Yo Yo Ping @ Setia Alam

Yo yo ping - an ice blended/ shaved ice. It has far long history in Malaysia and I used to pleading my parents to get me one whenever we visited pasar malam.

Visited Yo Yo Ping right after a rainy afternoon. That's why the shop was not really crowded as usual.

Yo Yo Ping offers dough based options in their menu such as pan mee, nasi lemak; baked sweet potato and of course not to forget the star items: fried chicken and yo yo ice.

The fried chicken was not too bad. It was golden and crispy looking. However we think the juiciness of the meat can be improved so it is more tender and not too hard to chew.
Fried Chicken RM3.50

And here comes the star of the day, the yo yo ice! There are 6 flavours available today that is red bean, sour plum, pineapple, mango, bubur cha cha and corn. Mix flavours is available upon request. Personally i prefer the combination of red bean + sour plum. It is pretty refreshing after having the fried chicken. Mango is a big no no as it tasted like cordial. Tried their ambra and bubur cha cha before and they were not bad as well.

Mango (left) RM2.50; Red Bean + Sour Plum (Right) RM2.50

Expanding its business, Setia Alam is actually the 2nd branch where the first outlet i supposed is the one located in Kota Kemuning.

Nothing very fantastic but I reckon it as one of the local flavour with reasonable price. Wouldn't mind having it again.

Win Soon Fish Head Noodles @ Setia Alam

I have always been a big fan for fish head rice noodles, or not really fish head i would say, fish paste rice noodles instead :)

This is my 3rd visit to this outlet in Setia Alam. Occupied the corner lot, Win Soon is just located behind a block from the famous Setia Alam Saturday pasar malam.

I ordered myself the sotong balls with fish paste meehoon soup. Lard fritters are used to give the soup a nice flavour and thus the soup was really good in taste. However, i doubt whether there was any msg being added in as i feel thirsty after this.

Sotong balls & fish paste meehoon soup RM9.50

Hot & spicy chili sauce
I shall still drop by occasionally to indulge in some this guilty pleasure. It's yummy, but not so healthy to have it often :)

Soo 秀 Bakery & Coffee @ Taman Melaka Raya

Soo Bakery & Coffee - the first Korean Bakery + Coffee House in Melaka (correct me if i am worng :p). Walking into Soo, it excites me, being greeted by the wonderful array of breads and the pleasant whiff of freshly baked pastry.

Indeed this was my 2nd visit since their opening. First visit was with slight disappointment. As a no.1 fans for Cheese cake, the cheese cake served here was totally an unpleasant experience. Hard and rough texture, with no taste of cheese. Me and Gui can't even finished that small little piece of it. However, the chocolate-y drink did impressed me.
Hot Chocolate (RM8.90) with a piece of dissapointing cheese cake (RM6.90) during my first visit
Our orders for the 2nd visit: Hot Chocolate (again :), Latte and macarons.

Hot Chocolate is still good as last visit. Latte was ok according to Tze but she commented that foam was bit too much as Latte require lesser foam. Foam was not really smooth and with visible bubbles which is a No No in Latte.

Macarons are popular in South Korea, and so how can we not to try this when we were in an authentic Korean bakery shop? The Macarons are so far one of the best we tried in Melaka. Not too sweet, and quite easy to melt in mouth.

Macarons RM2.90/pc
Not sure how much you guys like this, but this is a self-service bakery & coffee house; where you place your order at the counter at the ground floor, pay, and they will give you a receipt with a Beeping alarm thing. It will flash and vibrate when your orders are ready. Just bring it to the counter and collect your orders. Same concept as Snowflake, BlackBall etc...

Soo Bakery & Coffee also serves juices and various of Korean canned drinks! One can purchase breads and pastries here and enjoy a relaxing day along with a cuppa of coffee :) I'll be coming soon for the 3rd visit i guess...

Environment: 3.5/5
Food: 3.5/5

Parking suggestion: Plenty of street parking bays along the street. Might be difficult to find car park in day time, but somehow it depends on luck also, haha. Good luck!

Long Feng Restaurant - Dim Sum Buffet @ Ramada Plaza

When it comes to Mothers' Day celebration in Koi family, it means a 1 month celebration! So da da...! Here's the 3rd celebration in Long Feng Restaurant for the Dim Sum buffet!

You will definitely heard about the Dim Sum buffet in Long Feng Restaurant if you are a born and bred Malaccan :) This Chinese restaurant has been serving Malaccans with one of the best Dim Sum for more than 15 years in town.

The varieties seems to be good and the Dim Sum were served hot. Prawn dumpling soup,  durian roll, char siew roll, egg tart are definitely the few must try items if you were to be here!

Other than that, they served some hot / cold desserts. And as a plus point if your are visiting Long Feng Restaurant now for the Dim Sum buffet, you get to enjoy the Italian buffet in absolutely free. Not sure when is the promotion going to be end though :p, we were just lucky enough to get to enjoy this complimentary buffet. The Italian buffet by Olio Restaurant serves various type of appetisers, desserts and a "cook to order" pasta corner.  This is absolutely a great chance to experience "when East meet West", haha.

Overall we enjoyed the Dim Sum buffet, even grandma has a smiling face while eating (not sure it's because of the food or because she is happy with all the anak cucu around, haha)

Parking suggestion: It is advisable to drive in to Ramada Plaza car park as it cost only RM5/ entry. While the open space car park right opposite Ramada Plaza cost the same as well. Other way, you may try your luck at the street parking nearby as well.

bites @ Melaka ~ A Straits Fusion Affair

Melaka has recently blooming with few new eating places. And bites is definitely one of the must visit in the list.

Along Jalan Parameswara, you will not miss this outstanding restaurant with its stunning facade which constructed mainly with glasses. Once stepping in, you will be amazed with its unique feature wall. It is a combination with the existing old bricks construction with newly added raw bricks wall.

Quick glance on the menu and the food selection is considerably wide. They have main course offering burgers and western meals, salads, sider orders and cakes & pies for dessert as well. Great enough for either brunch, lunch or dinner :p

We have this Creamy smashed potato as our "appetiser". Its not in all smoothy smashed but it comes with some potato chunks so it brings good texture while tasting. And it is not too buttery which is to my liking. However, he doesn't really into this. Guess guy just not really into appetiser i guess :p
Creamy Smashed Potatoe RM3.90

Our main course was a Burger Satay Chicken. It comes with one of their signature side order which is the potato benang strips. The portion of the burger is considerably moderate for a big eater girl like me :) The satay gravy is nice and the meat is well cook and the texture is tender and juicy.
Burger Satay Chicken RM16.90

Potatoe Benang Strips (You may order this as a side dish at RM3.90)

The mango majito ordered by Be was chilling and refreshing. Worth a try. Hot chocolate was just fine.

Mango Majito RM6.90
Hot Chocolate RM6.90

Had a quick chat with the business development director, Mr. Matthew. And he mentioned that the restaurant was only recently opened for 2 weeks and 1 day, haha. Yet, i can see the restaurant was quite pack. This must be due to the good food quality and the good service from the crew as well. Food and drinks were served quite fast.  Highly recommended for Malaccans who are bored with the same old dining places in Melaka!

Ah ha, for the convenience for all,  you have few options here for car parking.
  1. Next 2 doors beside bites - there is a car wash open space car park.
  2. Park at the high street (behind bites or same row with Zurich insurance) - a short walk via the small alley (but be extra careful as it might be a bit dark in the alley)
  3. Parking area near Dataran Pahlawan, St Francis high school - a 3 minutes walk to bites.

Overall it was a pleasure dining experience with bites. The interior is unique, food quality is great, music played are nice! Thumbs up to the team!

Ole Barista @ Kompleks Perniagaan Syahbandar Melaka

Ole in Arabic means Bravo, and it is always being associated with an expression of JOY; Barista, an Italian word to describe a preparer of coffee behind a counter. And so, my first impression when i heard Ole Barista was this shop is definitely serving good coffee.

Ole Barista is a new cafe in Melaka. A simple cafe with nice atmosphere, and simple decoration. Slightly disappointed as I was expecting a corner with  just sofa + pillows, books; but indeed it looks more likes a eating places rather than a coffee cafe to chill out.

Picture from Ole Barista FB fan page

Ole Barista offers moderate selection for coffees, tea, western meals, sandwiches and some basic items.

We started off with the mushroom soup. Taste was fine, but texture wise slightly diluted. It will be good if it is more creamy and rich.

Mushroom soup RM5.90

We sampled the club sandwich. White bread, without toasted, and it came in layer of ham, egg, leafy green with fries as side. The bread was soggy, and so did the french toast. Quite bland tasted. Ingredients were fresh though.

Club Sandwich RM10.90

French Toast RM3.90

Coffee and hot chocolate by the young owners of Ole Barista.

Hot Chocolate                                                                    Latte

Overall it is consider a nice place to relax over. Service is friendly. One thing they should add in to their menu might be cakes i guess since coffees are always best match with cakes :p

We do appreciate the nice environment, the chef's effort in incorporating the fresh ingredients, but taste wise for both food and drinks, there is room for improvement. Probably give the young owners some time to gain more experience and to hone their taste buds. Will return again to give another try.
