Backlane Coffee @ Jonker Street Melaka

The month of October welcomes another new cafe to Malacca! Thanks to my dear friend Gui who introduced me this new cafe, Backlane Coffee. Backlane Coffee located "inside" a souvenir shop ( besides Koong Woh Tong herbal jelly shop), right opposite the Jonker Street main stage. Yes, it is inside a shop so you could hardly see the cafe from the facade :p

This cafe seems like an oasis free from distraction of the busy Jonker Street. The ambience is very welcoming and relaxing with the nice interior set up.

We were quite pleased with both the cake - "Backlane Passion" and macaron. Backlane Passion is with layers of passion fruits cream, chocolate mousse, white chocolate and the tempting caramel glaze. Not too sweet, with a bit of sour taste which was really refreshing. While the chocolate macaron, texture and filling were smooth, though i found it slightly too sweet for my liking.

Backlane Passion RM12.50

Tempting layers :)

Chocolate macaron RM4.50
Beverages wise, nothing much impressive. It looks tempting though for Ice Chocolate float which Gui's ordered. And for the Honey Melon Tea, taste was a bit too mild :(

Iced Chocolate Float RM13.50

Honey Melon Tea RM7.50

Staffs were quite friendly and attentive. They approached me several time just to check whether i need to add any hot water for the tea without me even asked for.

Both us did have a good time here. I believe the cakes here are worth for my second visit, haha.

Thats Coffee Cafe @ Taman Kota Laksamana Melaka

Breaking news! Breaking news! Another new cafe in town! Just recently about 2 weeks back, Thats Coffee opened its door for business @ Taman Kota Laksamana.

Located at the first floor shop lot unit, facing the main road, it is not difficult for you to locate this new cafe. We were quite impressed with the simple interior, with all plain grey & white wall, and the cosy furniture arrangement.

Browed through the simple rustic menu, Thats Coffee offers drinks, with some snack and light refreshment. Paying methods yet a bit varies with others, where you will place your order at the counter; after making payment, the barista will give you a order placement number and they will send you your orders accordingly later.

We ordered a hot Latte and hot chocolate. First glance at the Latte, we were a bit disappointed with the coffee art. But right after a sip of it, Tze were quite impressed with the taste. So do the hot chocolate. It was rich, creamy and tasty!

Latte RM9

Hot Chocolate RM8
This is definitely one of a great place where people come for coffee or a drink to relax, to meet with friends, or to just take a break after working.

Remarks: However the wifi does not seems to work. The staff helped me to key in the password twice but still unsuccessful :(

Casa Cucina @ Taman Kota Laksamana, Melaka

20.10.2014, another meaningful date for Be and me. As this mark the first milestone in our marriage life - the one month marriage celebration :)

We decided to have a simple dinner at Casa Cucina, the modern Italian restaurant located at Taman Kota Laksamana Melaka. The facade and interior are simple yet cosy and comfortable. We were being directed to the new extension next door where our reservation table being located.

We had the Mediteraneo Pizza set (RM38) which comes with a mushroom soup + pizza (for 2 pax) + a glass of fresh fruit juice (apple or orange juice). The mushroom soup was simple awesome! It was creamy, yummy though abit of oily :p . Pizza was fine with credit goes to all the fresh ingredients, but the dough was abit too hard and chewy.

The super tasty mushroom soup

Meditarean pizza (Ala carte RM35.90)

Fresh orange juice that comes together with the set menu. (Ala carte RM8.90)

We ordered a Rotolo di Pollo, which translate to English will be - chicken roll. This dish served with a special orange walnut sauce and came together with a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes. The meat was tender and juicy, not abit of over cook at all. Thumbs up for this special dish! But my all time favourite hot chocolate was a huge disappointment though :(

Rotolo di Pallo RM27.90

Perfect match of orange walnut sauce + mashed potatoes
Hot Chocolate RM8.90
Service wise,  the service crews have still more rooms to improve. As in they should at least ask for permission before clearing the plates; and somehow, the owner and staffs served only the guests in the table next to us with water after meal but not to us. And the chef asked opinion about the food from them, but again, not from us. Very inconsistent service we can see here. Also, we can even hear the crews + chef discussion right from the kitchen, which I found it was abit annoying and noisy.

We spent RM81.20 (10% of service charge) for this meal. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but we do expect a better quality of food, service and environment in our next visit.

Passport renewal @ UTC Melaka

My last experience for renewing passport was 5 years ago when I was still residing in Ara Damansara. And it is now time again to get a new book for myself as I am travelling oversea soon with Be for our honeymoon trip :)

2 days before the renewal, i headed to Jabatan Imigresen Melaka to understand the latest requirement for the passport photo (as I can't seems to find any updated information in the Imigresen website). Out of my surprise, the officer told me that for renewing passport, I shall only to bring along my old passport and the original IC; of course money for payment as well :)

Ok, after gathering all the information required, here am i today drive down to UTC Melaka for this important mission. Reached UTC Melaka car park at 8.40am. And I have expected that there's gonna be a long queue to wait. But... ..., I got the number of 1007 while current number is at 1006! I did not even have chance to sit down when I heard and saw my number was being called! Haha.

I headed to counter number 4. The officer was friendly and greeted me with a warm smile. He got my old passport and IC for details verification, and asked for my latest contact number.  Subsequently, he asked me to turn to my left where the camera is, and 1, 2, 3 SMILE! That's it! My passport photo gao dim within seconds. And after verifying and thumb printing, I may leave the counter and wait for payment at counter 7.

The black box on each white panel is the camera for instant passport photo shooting

My number was being called again within minutes i left counter 4. After the payment, the officer gave me a receipt with time of collection being stamped on it. And then I was being directed to leave the receipt in a box at counter 6 which is the dispense counter.

Not even 20 minutes i started reading my book, again, my name was being called. The officer at counter 6 asked me to check and confirm whether all the details on the passport are 100% correct, and proceed with signature if yes.

And guess what, all these were being done within 30 minutes since i arrived UTC Melaka car park. Efficient right!

Receipt issued at 8.48am, and I collected my passport at 9.10am - 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled time :p

So here I summarise again the simple procedure for passport renewal for your reference:

1. Bring along your original old passport and original IC.
2. Go to the reception counter and get the queue number. Make sure you have all the documents with you as per stated in No.1 else no queue number will be given.
3. Wait for your number to be called. Passed the documents to the officer and photo will be taken here. (please make sure you are wearing dark color clothes; alternatively there are few black blazer provided there just incase some people are wearing light color clothes.)
4. Proceed for payment at counter 7. (wait for your number to be called).
5. Make payment and receipt will be issued to you.
6. Place the receipt in the box located at counter 6.
7. Wait for your name to be called and final check all the details before you sign on the book.
8. The end! haha

Happy renewing passport! :)

Fahrenheit 600 cafe @ Publika

Our second visit to Fahrenheit 600 cafe at Publika. It is more than a cafe I should say due to its' extensive menu.  And reason to come back: Super value for money lunch set + the superb tempting tasty cake as dessert!

Fahrenheit 600 was packed with customers as usual.  The Koi sisters had to wait for minutes before we got a table. We straight had our orders placed and again, as usual, the food were being served fast and yet, remain the same good quality. In fact, the Koi sisters were having such a great time here with the comfortable environment and energetic & humorous staffs :) Love this place!

A&H: Celebration of "ah, that's love" ~DIY Paper Fan

A&H decided to have the ROM ceremony to be held on the same day on our wedding day, 20th September 2014, at the 3rd floor pool side at Holiday Inn Melaka.

Since it's gonna be an outdoor ceremony, there might be a possibility for either raining, or we all gotto suffer under the big hot sun. In terms of raining kind concern, we were lucky enough as Holiday Inn Melaka pool side has the glass shade where guests can sheltered underneath.

So, to get ourselves prepare for the Mr. Sunny, we decided to diy a hand fan for every guest. Few things to prepare as  below:

1. A5 art card (or you may get A4 art card, then separate it into half which will give you 2 A5 card as well :p)
2. Wooden craft stick
3. Double sided tape (craft glue)
4. Scissor
5. Satin ribbon

This is indeed super easy. After creating the image you want in either Photoshop, Microsoft Words or whatever software you are comfortable with, test print on a piece of paper with the size you desire. If everything is fine then, let's start the printing job!

After you are done with the printing, fold the printing card into half (as per shown in the picture).

Place as many as of the double sided tape on the blank side especially at the edge of the paper.

Enhance the glue or double sided tape on the part where you have the wooden craft stick place on.

Adhere both side of the card. And last but not least, decorate it with some nice piece of satin ribbon with some craft glue stick at the back just to secure it.

Yup, that's all. You are done with this super nice diy hand fan!

You may opt for any other die cut shape you prefer eg. heart shape, oval shape. But it might be more time consuming though :p

Have fun to try it out!
